1. Multi-channel learning
You should constantly give your brain new portions of knowledge coming from different sources. Sometimes even a 5-min learning session might be very helpful. For example, you are doing something not related to the study but suddenly understand there is something you don’t know but extremely curious about, be it a phrase from a foreign language you are studying or a certain historic event. It will take you just up to 5 minutes to look it up and you will definitely remember it. Use any chance to learn something new and you are more likely to remember things that you learned while bursting with curiosity.
Do not use only one learning source, such as books or articles. Visit conferences, talk to people dealing with this subject, attend cultural events, watch documentary movies, watch your favourite movies in a foreign language – this way you will not force your mind to study and as a result you will be more inclined to learning new things, even if you need to learn big portions of material in a hurry. Travel around the world, explore different cultures, practice languages and you will expand your horizon to absorb new things much quicker.
Remembering objects or other graphic elements is easier for the majority of learners. Creating tables or schemes on the basis raw text adds visualization to the things you need to remember. This is extremely helpful for chronological events or different classifications. However, each type of information can be shown graphically – you just need to find associations that will be the easiest for you to remember.
Highlighting the key pieces of information works well too, especially if you don’t have enough time to put down the notes. Use highlighters of different colors to make the most significant information instantly visible to you. You need to be able to scan through your text without actually reading it. It will save you a lot of time, especially if you are running out of it.
3. Favorable environment and physical condition
When your body tells you that it needs something, you are unlikely to learn quickly. Constant distraction will not let you concentrate on your study. Sleepiness, hunger or illness will make you think about your body inner desires without taking your studying plans into account. Take regular breaks during your study, have healthy meals and good sleep. Make sure you have enough fresh air in the room as a human brain needs air to function properly.
The environment plays a pivotal role in your study too. Background music for study and concentration can be very much helpful for focusing your mind on absorbing new information. Get rid of all the things that might distract you, like phone, social media websites or loud music.
When your environment and physical condition are favourable, you are extremely likely to boost your learning effectiveness.
4. New hobbies
Balancing your study with some physical activities can increase your concentration, memory and learning effectiveness. Those who start playing musical instruments, develop a more precise sense of timing. Athletics will help you to train your coordination and timing too. Or if you are probably fond of drawing or sculpturing, you may expect your eye-hand coordination to improve.
Such activities will calm you down after busy learning sessions or other activities you are involved in. Even sleep can’t give your mind such a good rest. Do something you love the most and that requires all your attention. This way you will be able to unlock different parts of your brain and make it more capable of remembering more things than have ever been possible to you.
You will be more likely to grasp new things effortlessly when your mind is fresh and your life experience has been broadened. You can create new parallels between your new experiences and things you need to learn.
Whenever you have a chance to study with friends, just use it for higher effectiveness. Started studying a foreign language? Join language clubs to come and just talk on different topics. Need to prepare for exams? Invite your classmates and talk on the exam topics together. This way, you are more likely to find the answers to difficult questions, learn someone’s point of view or simply practice talking on your exam topics in front of the audience. Capture the ideas, create mind maps and discuss the ideas you are doubtful about.
Ability to grasp new knowledge at a record pace is more critical than ever before. New career opportunities in this modern world require intelligent brains and extremely quick learning skills.
